PI hitting the political headlines
October 05, 2010
Throughout September, having had their fill of speculating on what might result from the Jackson Review, the media - both trade press and national - turned their attention to the 'delayed' report from Lord Young into Health and Safety in the UK.
This is a fruitful subject for the media which reported one leak after another. However Solicitors' Journal published a nice roundup of how a number of magazines and newspapers had written the story. It said that newsdesks had come across details of what is likely to be amongst Lord Young's conclusions and that many of its own readership were concerned at the possible content. SJ spoke to a number of solicitors who pointed out the flaws in many of the proposals.
As it turns out, the venue for its delivery looks likely to be the Tory conference itself and if you would like to see the Daily Mail's gleeful interpretation of what this could mean click here.
Meanwhile, a cohort of interested parties, including lawyers, ATE Insurers and victim support groups has joined forces to take a collective voice in protest at the Jackson reform proposals. Insurance Times attempted to balance this story of the Consumer Justice Alliance's launch on Sept 23rd, by quoting the trade press regular David Williams from Axa Insurance.
The sector will undoubtedly be heading for some interesting times as these two issues reach their next stages.
Premex Services monitors all developments affecting its customers carefully and aims to provide up to date analysis of all of the news and what it means to your business. Below is a further selection of items which could be of interest and we welcome any feedback you might have.
