Premex Services is able to arrange diagnostic investigations including nerve conduction studies at national locations which are convenient for your client.

What is EMG – Nerve Conduction Studies?

EMG stands for electromyogram. An electromyogram tests the functions of the nerve roots and the affect of them on the muscle function by looking at how well the electrical currents in the nerves are being transmitted to the muscles.

How are EMG – Nerve Conduction Studies carried out?

The test consists of two parts, though at times one may be done without the other. The first part is called Nerve Conduction Studies. In this part some brief electrical shocks are delivered to your arm or leg in an effort to determine how fast or slowly your nerves are conducting the electrical current. The second part tests the muscle to see if there has been any damage to it as a result of the nerve problem or if the disease involves the muscle itself rather than the nerve.

What are EMG tests used for?

EMGs are usually carried out on patients who are having problems with their muscles or nerves. By testing the nerves and muscles of the body’s extremities, an EMG will highlight any problems in either the nerves or the muscles.
