Premex Services is able to arrange MRI’s at around 80 sites nationwide. MRI combines a powerful magnet with a sophisticated computer to produce pictures of any part of the body without the need for x-rays. The examination is short, has none of the risks associated with x-rays, and there are no known harmful effects.
What are MRI scanners used for?
An MRI is performed to show areas where body chemistry has been disturbed by disease or illness.
The MRI scanner can be used for cross section views of any part of the body, however, it is most often used to examine the head and brain where soft and hard tissues meet and it is the investigative tool of choice for imaging the spinal cord. MRI is used widely to investigate neurological diseases/ conditions such as multiple sclerosis, infections, dementia, epilepsy and stroke.
MRI clearly demonstrates the soft tissue structures in any joint e.g. tendons, cartilage, bone, synovial fluid and surrounding muscle. Damage to any of these structures can be demonstrated.
