The Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Anthony Connell, accompanied by the Mayoress, Mrs Maureen Connell, today took time out of their busy schedule to pay a visit to Premex Services.
The morale boosting visit, recognising the significant role Premex plays as an employer for those living in and around Bolton, where it is responsible for the livelihoods of hundreds in the town who are set to benefit directly or indirectly from the company's community initiatives, was organised to formally mark the launch of the business's recently established programme of environmental and socially responsible projects designed to give something back to the community within which it operates.
The Mayor and Mayoress, escorted on a tour of the operation by Group MD Bill Clynes, were introduced to a number of award winning employees and had the opportunity to not only see staff at work but to talk to them about the organisation and the important work it is doing to reduce its impact on the environment. They were told about the company's efforts to save trees in particular. As the leading generator of medico legal reports, Premex Services uses on average 8,000 pages of letter headed paper a day and 12,500 pages of blank paper daily which equates to around five million pieces of paper every year.
Through the implementation of a new state of the art electronic case management system, the amount of waste paper has been reduced dramatically, and by encouraging staff to be more responsible, wastage has been cut further. And the previous environmentally unfriendly paper has been replaced by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved recycled stock from sustainable sources, saving over 600 trees a year.
Following a number of speeches the Mayor presented a branded ball and football shirt commemorating the company's continued support of junior football in the area through its sponsorship of Horwich St Mary's Volcanoes - an under 12s football team for which Premex has provided kit and equipment and for whom one of the company's sales executives, Andrew Saunders, acts as manager and coach.
