The standard is given to any organisation that can maintain an environmental management system and actively improve its environmental performance.
ISO 14001 has been a corporate goal for Premex to achieve since we first measured and undertook to reduce our carbon footprint in 2008, in which we calculated we used over eight million pieces of paper a year. Since then we have actively embraced sustainability within Premex, ensuring that it is imbedded within the culture and is a key driver for developing innovative electronic and paperless systems; systems which, aside from benefitting the environment, help reduce costs, cut timescales for both Premex and its customers.
Over the past year, through the implementation of new environmental initiatives, the whole organisation has made a concerted effort to reduce our environmental impact. Year on year, electricity consumption, water, waste and paper have all reduced.
Bill Clynes, managing director of Premex Group and the man responsible for championing this environmental drive, comments: "We are delighted to see that all of our hard work has paid off with the award of this standard but are even happier that the changes we've made will provide us, our business partners, and the communities that surround our operations with even greater benefits in the years to come."
"These changes not only ensure an environmentally sustainable, long-term future for Premex Services but they are also good news for our partners. Independent certification of our initiatives helps like-minded customers prove the veracity of their own green claims, as they strive to mitigate their businesses' impact on the environment. Green business thinking definitely makes great business sense."
"Goals like protecting the environment, mitigating harmful behaviours and implementing positive strategies to improve the lives of those that a business touches have become mainstream objectives for many companies but it's all too easy to say the right things without really following through, making sometimes difficult decisions and taking decisive action. Well, we've done it and we're proud of what we've achieved."
