Donald Fowler Managing Director of Premex Services presented at the annual I Love Claims conference yesterday, explaining the modern delivery of independent medical evidence by Premex.

Donald alongside Stuart Sheehy from Premier Medical Group, presented to over 500 delegates from leading insurers, brokers, repairers, solicitors and accident managers all of whom have a keen interest in the claims process and getting the industry fit for purpose.

After a second insurance summit at Whitehall on Wednesday saw ministers propose a possible consultation on setting up independent medical panels to assess whiplash claimants, Premex recognised there was a clear need to dispel a number of myths associated with medical reporting organisations and to emphasise the realities of delivering independent medical evidence in the modern age.

The current procurement of medical evidence has been shaped enormously by solicitor and insurer requirements and has brought significant benefits to the claims process including:

  • Independence - delivered by high quality NHS doctors
  • Speed - quick appointments, and fast turnaround of reports
  • Cost  - successful operation of fixed cost regime with insurers
  • Innovation - report writing software and "real time" appointment booking system

Premex is monitoring the consultation while developing even more rigorous processes and accreditations for doctors to ensure that medical evidence is only gathered from panels of high quality independent experts.
