Premex Group was delighted when its support of local club Woodhouses CC witnessed a historic victory at the home of English Cricket. In front of Sky TV Cameras, a Premex-sponsored village team from Oldham took victory against Rottingdean in the final of the UK Village Cup at Lords.
A brutal innings of 63 runs from just 31 balls by 17 year old Nick Doyle took Woodhouses to a total of 112-1 against their rivals' 54-8 in a rain delayed match on September 4th.
Woodhouses were first time finalists in the competition; a feat all the more impressive considering amongst their alumni was a certain former England Test captain, Mike Atherton.
"It was a terrific performance and we're very proud as a company to be associated with Woodhouses CC," explained Doug Sloan, eldest member of the team and business development manager at Premex Group. "Although the weather threatened to derail the entire game, we played 10 overs each and the crowd eventually saw a superb spectacle and some excellent cricket from our guys."
Woodhouses reached the final having become Lancashire village champions and by beating the winning representatives of Cheshire, Derbyshire, Worcestershire and Yorkshire.
"I'd like to personally congratulate Woodhouses CC, its players and everyone associated with the club on a superb victory," added Simon Margolis, chief executive of Premex Group. "As a company we've always been strong supporters of local clubs and the dedication shown by everyone to reach this goal has been fantastic."
